Odour removal and ozone treatment

When cleaning is not enough — the odour removed at its source, from surfaces and from the air.

Tobacco smoke, cooking, pets or a space that has been shut up for a long time can leave a smell that ordinary cleaning does not shift. The odour has soaked into surfaces, textiles and the pores of materials, and it comes back even after airing.

Odour removal always starts with a thorough clean of the source and the surfaces. Where needed, it continues with ozone treatment, which breaks down the remaining odour molecules in the air and on surfaces.

What odour removal includes

  • Identifying the source of the odour
  • Thorough cleaning of surfaces
  • Ozone treatment where needed
  • Ventilating the space after treatment

Safety during ozone treatment

Ozone is harmful to breathe, so there must be no people, pets or plants in the space during treatment. Afterwards the space is ventilated before anyone goes back in.

Ozone treatment does not replace cleaning and does not fix moisture damage. If the odour comes from damp or mould, the cause has to be found and repaired — otherwise the smell returns.

When odour removal is needed

Odour removal is needed, for example, in a rental apartment vacated by a smoker, after pets, after strong cooking smells, or in a space that has been closed for a long time. The right method is assessed on site.

Process

How we proceed

  1. 1

  2. 2

    Cleaning

The source and the surfaces are cleaned thoroughly.

  3. 3

    Ozone treatment

Where needed, the empty space is treated with ozone.

  4. 4

    Ventilation

The space is ventilated, after which it is ready to use.

Common questions

Is ozone treatment safe?

Done correctly, yes. There must be no people, pets or plants in the space during treatment, and the space is ventilated before use.

Does ozone treatment remove tobacco smell?

Ozone treatment is widely used to remove tobacco odour, and it works best once the surfaces have been cleaned first. In heavily affected spaces, several treatments or renewing surfaces — repainting, for example — may be needed.

Can ozone treatment remove mould?

No. Ozone can reduce the smell, but the cause of mould and moisture damage must always be repaired. If you suspect moisture damage, have a condition survey done.

How long is the space out of use?

That depends on the size of the space and the strength of the odour. We give you an estimate before treatment.
